John Cornish has been elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences

John M. Cornish, Co-Chair of the Wealth Management Group at Choate, has been elected a member of the prestigious American Academy of Arts and Sciences. The Academy is a center for independent policy research, and its elected members are leaders in the academic disciplines, the arts, business, and public affairs. The current membership is comprised of 4,000 American Fellows and 600 Foreign Honorary members, including more than 250 Nobel laureates and more than 60 Pulitzer Prize winners.
“This is a great honor for John and we are very proud that he was elected to join this elite honorary society,” said William Gelnaw and John Nadas, co-managing partners at Choate. “John is a leader in his field, and will provide valuable input and a unique perspective to the important work of the Academy.”
As Co-Chair of the Wealth Management Group at Choate, Mr. Cornish has more than 35 years of experience in wealth management. Mr. Cornish frequently serves as trustee and administrator of clients’ trusts and private charitable foundations, and as executor of clients’ estates. Mr. Cornish is a member of the firm’s Operating Committee and has served several terms on Choate’s Executive Committee. He has been named a Massachusetts Super Lawyer.
Since 2002, Mr. Cornish has served as a Trustee of The Calderwood Charitable Foundation, which supports art and educational programs and has provided major contributions for a Museum of Fine Arts gallery, a new music hall at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, a studio at WGBH-TV, a writer’s cottage at MacDowell Colony, and the Calderwood Pavilion at the Huntington Theatre. Mr. Cornish received the Huntington Theatre’s highest honor – “The Wimberly Award” – in 2009 for his significant contributions to the organization.
Mr. Cornish received his LL.M. from Boston University School of Law in 1977 and his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1973. He received his A.B. from Harvard University in 1969.
