Elizabeth Powers
Elizabeth Powers counsels Choate’s private equity clients through the evaluation of the commercial viability of intellectual property portfolios and the underlying technology of a fund’s potential investment or acquisition target. Drawing on her many years of experience as a patent attorney, Elizabeth provides particular expertise in software (including SaaS and cloud-based services), biomedical, and emerging technologies.
As a certified privacy professional under the IAPP, with a CIPP/US certificate, Elizabeth is also relied on to evaluate the data privacy and security compliance for investors, while developing policies and terms of use to help clients ensure compliance with applicable laws to protect valuable assets and sensitive information.
Elizabeth is a frequent lecturer on issues related to intellectual property and is a published author on IP strategy. She was a lecturer at the Santa Clara University School of Law and served as Professor of Practice at Santa Clara University Leavey School of Business, teaching intellectual property and business law courses. She is also a Black Duck Certified Legal Specialist.
